Equine Portraits

Legion & Poppy, Equine Portraits

Equine Portraits against a black background have always been one of my favorite photoshoot packages. It is a timeless and elegant way to remember all of your memories with that horse, while simultaneously turning their natural beauty into a fine art for your home, office and barn.

Clients who have multiple horses photographed, like this pony named Poppy, and horse named Legion, I offer both individual portraits as well as compositions of the horses together. I prefer to photograph the horses individually, as this keeps everyone (horse, owner and my assistant) safe, and allows the horse’s true personality to shine through. I enjoy talking to the owner about their horses to learn about their personality and behavior, and while we’re photographing, I can pick up those tidbits of knowledge in the body language of the horse. From there, I choose poses for the second horse that creates the illusion that the horses were always photographed together.

This is only possible because I have a background in equine behavior, with the ability to shape the behavior by directing my assistant to tap into their scenes. We use visual and audio toys, items scented with sweet feed or peppermint, and tasty treats all woven into my assistant’s own body language and movement.

These were a handful of my favorite images from Poppy and Legion’s Equine Portrait photoshoot in Loxahatchee Florida. (Click HERE to see my full travel schedule and when I’ll be back in Florida!)
