Winston, Urban Dog Photoshoot

I don’t photograph my own dog nearly enough. When I do, it’s usually to test out new camera gear or try new locations for upcoming dog photoshoots. Winston is a 5 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi, and AKC titled trick dog. While he knows over 100 tricks and commands, we typically only need a handful of them to capture quality photographs when out on locations. A few of those commands are sit, down, stand, paws up, chin down, and wait. From there, we go for a walk and when something inspires me, we stop to take a photograph.

Urban locations have always been a challenge for me (being in the city is a personal struggle, as I always feel most comfortable surrounded by nature.), so with time off from my travel schedule, Winston and I headed down town Muskegon to gain knowledge and experience to better my skills as a photographer. We were lucky enough to convince my husband to join us, and when he wasn’t wandering off exploring shops or finding food, he hung on to Winston’s leash and dished out the hot dog treats. It is MUCH easier to photograph a dog when someone is there to assist, as this allows me to use a long lens while keeping the dog on leash for safety.

Winston was the perfect pup for his photoshoot. Modeling like a pro, cheesing for hot dogs, and always willing to play along with my silly games of taking photos every 5 feet. 😆 These were my favorite photographs from our adventure!
